Patellar tendon rupture is an uncommon clinical presentation, which generally affects the under 40s who are active in sport. Bilateral rupture of both tendons is much rarer. It occurs most frequently in patients with predisposing factors such as corticosteroid use or systemic diseases. The authors present the case of a 56-year-old male on long-term statin therapy who sustained this injury follo...
متن کاملMuscle pain and use of statin drugs.
Manual therapists, confronted by patients complaining of chronic muscular pain, need to be aware of a possible source of that pain e their patient’s medication, particularly if statins are being taken. One of the main reported side effects of statin consumption involves development of the symptoms of myopathy. This is confirmed by both past and recent research (Fernandez et al., 2011; Sathasiva...
متن کاملUltrasound Diagnosis of Bilateral Quadriceps Tendon Rupture After Statin Use
Simultaneous bilateral quadriceps tendon rupture is a rare injury. We report the case of bilateral quadriceps tendon rupture sustained with minimal force while refereeing a football game. The injury was suspected to be associated with statin use as the patient had no other identifiable risk factors. The diagnosis was confirmed using bedside ultrasound.
متن کاملStatin use is associated with reduced mortality in COPD.
Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have an increased risk of ischaemic heart disease (IHD). Statins reduce mortality and morbidity in IHD. It has been hypothesised that statin treatment is associated with reduced long-term mortality in patients with COPD. Using a retrospective cohort design, 854 consecutive patients (mean age 70.8 yrs; 51.5% female) with a diagnosis of C...
